The Women of Vrede en Lust

At Vrede en Lust, winemakers Karlin Nel and Elaine Loter help celebrate the inspiring women who are integral to our story and our wines. The owner, Dana Buys, has honored his four daughters by naming wines after each of them: Jess rosé, Sarah bubbly, Anni Sauvignon Blanc, and Ella red blend. Our Red Lady Merlot is a tribute to the tasting room team, known for their iconic red dresses. Last but not least, the Lady J Syrah is dedicated to Ouma Johanna, the matriarch of the Buys family and grandmother to Dana's daughters.

1x Lady J Syrah 2021

• Varietals: Shiraz (100%)
• Aged for 16 months in a combination of new, second-fill, and older French oak barrels.
• Drinking beautifully now, with potential to age gracefully for 5–7 years.
• Aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums, cherries, black pepper, cloves, and dark chocolate.
• The palate is rich and full-bodied, with layered complexity, refined structure, and a smooth finish.
• Pairs perfectly with grilled meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses.

1x Red Lady Merlot 2023

• Varietals: Merlot (100%)
• Matured in oak barrels (details unspecified) to enhance texture and integrate subtle vanilla notes.
• Crafted to be enjoyed in its youth.
• Smooth and fruit-forward, with ripe red berries and soft vanilla from oak.
• Approachable and balanced with a soft, elegant finish.

1x Sarah Bubbly 2023

• Varietals: Chardonnay (62%), Chenin Blanc (18%), Pinot Noir (20%).
• Second fermentation in bottle on the lees for 8 months; disgorged before release.
• Enjoy now or within 3–5 years. Will develop tertiary notes like lanolin with age.
• Fresh citrus aromas with hints of brioche and a touch of minerality and earthiness from Elgin terroir.
• Zesty and vibrant with a fine mousse.
• Marked by extraordinary freshness, aromatic green apple, pear, and stone fruit are present.
• Pairing perfectly as an aperitif or with anything deep-fried.

1x Ella Red Blend 2022

• Varietals: Grenache (73%), Shiraz (22%), Viognier (5%)
• Aged 14–16 months in a mix of French and American oak, using new and used barrels for balance and complexity.
• Enjoy now or within 10 years from vintage
• An elegantly styled wine with aromas of violets, concentrated red fruit, followed through with a soft, juicy palate and well-rounded tannins.
• Ripe blackberries, juicy plums, and blackcurrants on the palate, with subtle spice adding depth.
• Silky tannins and a smooth, well-structured finish.
• Pairs beautifully with spicy dishes, grilled meats, or smoky Asian cuisine.

• Varietals: Pinotage (78%), Shiraz (14%), Grenache (8%)
• Fermented in stainless steel and aged briefly on the lees for added texture and complexity.

• A touch of spice adds depth to this vibrant, fruit-forward rosé.

• Varietals: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
• Fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees for 4 months for added texture and complexity.

• Fresh and vibrant with aromas of Granny Smith apple and citrus. The palate offers green apple, pear, and a touch of flinty minerality from Elgin’s cool climate terroir.
